Mrs. Paula Graef

Principal Graef

Dear Brooklyn Elementary Families,

Welcome to Brooklyn Elementary School! My name is Mrs. Paula Graef and I am proud to be serving our students in the community of Brooklyn. At Brooklyn Elementary School, we are committed to the following staff created vision statement:

Our vision is to create an elementary school that is highly regarded for its academic excellence. BES will be an engaging environment where every child discovers personal strengths and talents, develops a passion for learning, and acquires the skills to be creative and collaborative problem solvers. We will be a safe, respectful, and inclusive school community where responsibility for learning is shared, and every voice counts.

Our school population for the start of the 2018–2019 school year is made up of approximately 550 students from pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. Our teachers have been hard at work this summer preparing classrooms for students and what promises to be an exciting year. In literacy, we have begun implementing Readers and Writers Workshop model as our instructional delivery model in order to expose our students to multiple genres of reading and writing and create avid and skilled readers and writers. In mathematics we follow curriculum which provides opportunities for children to build effective problem solving strategies through real world applications. Content lessons, which consists of Next Generation Science Standards as well as the Social Studies Frameworks round out our classroom instruction. Additionally, our students attend Physical Education, Music, Art, Library, and STEAM classes each week.

As the elementary principal, I strongly believe that our school community needs to work together to create a learning environment that is safe, caring, exciting and rigorous for our students. Our staff, along with the support of parents and the community, works very hard to form a successful partnership. I encourage you to consider joining and volunteering with the Brooklyn Schools PTO.  This organization is highly involved in our efforts to support our students and staff.

I invite you to continually visit our website which serves as a location for information and updates. In addition, I will use this site to share the great moments I capture throughout our building in regards to what our students are learning. For emergencies and time sensitive information, we will continue to use School Messenger. Please be sure we have your most recent phone number and primary email on record. Contact our office if you need to update your information.
