Mrs. Shelly Michaud
Principal of Brooklyn Elementary School

August 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself as the new principal of Brooklyn Elementary School (BES).  I am extremely excited about working with you and the fabulous BES staff to ensure that your child’s time at school is positive and productive.

I was raised, and continue to reside, in Connecticut’s “Quiet Corner”, so I am well versed in the needs of its communities.  I am eager to visit many of the locations in Brooklyn I’ve been told are “must see” and am looking forward to participating in district and town events.

I come to BES with an educational background in early childhood education, history and social science, reading and language arts, and educational leadership.  The past five years, I served as the principal of a pre-kindergarten through grade one school in Stafford Springs, Connecticut.  Prior to that, I taught seventh and eighth grade social studies in the same community for many years.  As both a teacher and principal, I believe that a strong home-school partnership is critical to student success at all levels. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead in such a beautiful and supportive community.

In just a few days in Brooklyn, I have had the pleasure of meeting many school and district staff.  I can already see that BES has excellent staff who have a passion for learning and consistently strive for student success.  My goal is to support staff as they continue to provide a safe, positive, and enriched environment for children to learn and grow.

I look forward to meeting each BES family over the next few weeks and cannot wait to see all the amazing things BES students will do in the 2016-2017 school year.

See you soon,

Shelley A. Michaud
